Sepalcure – Sepalcure (Hotflush)

American duo Sepalcure’s debut full-length offers a great litmus test of where dance music is at the moment. Despite the fact that bass music has seen a ton of growth in the meathead demographic recently, they don’t see any reason in getting hung up on that. These Americans (in a genre overwhelmingly populated by Brits) aim to remind us that we’ve also seen tons of progress in intelligent, interesting bass-step. They’re not pushing the genre into 2012, they do a great job of reminding us why we loved it in 2011 – warped samples, funky counter-rhythms and plenty of deep, round bass. – Mike Nigro
