That Record Store Day 7″ was just a teaser. On May 18th The Rolling Stones will reissue their 1972 classic, Exile On Main St. in four versions – CD, Deluxe CD, 180-gram vinyl, and a box set that includes limited-edition postcards, a collector’s booklet, 2 LPs, 2 CDs and a DVD. Radio Dept. on vinyl!!!
Posted by adam in Uncategorized on 05 12th, 2010| | Comments Off

Alright, y’all. If you hang out in our store enough you know we’re all really into The Radio Dept. John says Clinging To A Scheme is the album of the year. The rest of us are too commitment-phobic to say that just yet, but we do like it a lot – a lot, a lot. You may have already picked up from us on CD but we just got in on vinyl today! Rumor has it they only pressed 200 copies of it, and in all the record stores in all the land, somehow we got 10 of them…. so, hurry up. These won’t last, and when they’re gone, they’re most likely gone for good.

The Black Keys Record Store Day 12″
Posted by adam in Uncategorized on 05 10th, 2010| | Comments Off

We still have a small stockpile of Black Keys 12″ singles from Record Store Day for $9.99. As the record itself so clearly states, “This is a twelve inch single by The Black Keys. The song on the A-Side is called Tighten Up. The song on the B-Side is called Howlin’ for you.” If you’re a Black Keys fan and you need more info than that, shame on you. We’ll let you slide this time and we’ll offer this video for “Tighten Up.” We’re just cool like that. You’re welcome.

        Meet Frank:

Wait, wait, did I say we’re cool? I meant we’re awesome ’cause here’s a full album stream of Brothers (out 5/18) via NPR! I admit, we can only really claim messenger-status awesomeness. We must give NPR their due…

This week’s Right Price title is the Dead Weather‘s Sea of Cowards for $9.99! We think it’s pretty gnarly, but you can stream the whole album for free at NPR if you want to be sure you’re not wasting $10.

Next week we’ll have Band of Horses new one for $7.99!

Mississippi Records: Yeah, we got that.
Posted by adam in Uncategorized on 05 8th, 2010| | Comments Off

I’ve never been to Portland but that’s where Mississippi Records is located, and that’s enough reason for me to start planning a trip. If you don’t know, Mississippi Records is a label that has become known for their ultra-rare, limited pressing vinyl. Not only do they put out some of the most interesting music you’ve probably never heard, but they also make it hard to find because of their relatively small output and limited distribution. The good news is you CAN find Mississippi stuff in your local record store… that’s us. We have a standing order for all Mississippi releases so do some research and find out which ones you’re interested in (probably all of them) and we’ll see what we can do for you. As of right now, these are the Mississippi titles that we have in stock:

            Clara Rockmore – Theremin $17.99
Michael Hurley – Hi Fi Snock Uptown $14.99
            Range Rats – S/T $14.99
Rev. Louis Overstreet – An Evening With Rev. Louis Overstreet $17.99
Michael Hurley – Armchair Boogie $14.99
Chin Chin – Sound of the Westway 16.99
Abner Jay – True Story of Abner Jay $17.99
Getatchew Mekuria – Moa Anbessa $14.99
Fanajana – A Collection of Recordings & Photography from Madagasikara $14.99
Joseph Spence – Good Morning Mr. Walker $18.99
Mata La Pena: A Compilation of International Music $18.99

Also, if you want to be a true nerd about it, RootStrata (one of the coolest blogs on the world wide of webs) has .zip files of most of Mississippi Records cassette releases. Just do a search under “Mississippi Records” and they should all come up. The tapes are all out of print but this is a great way to get into Mississippi’s stuff fo’ free.
