New posters are here, and they rule.
Posted by adam in New Releases on 08 23rd, 2010| | Comments Off

We just got a grip of new posters in, many of which we’ve never had before. My favorites are either the cover of Joy Division’s Closer, or a super awesome portrait of Nick Cave (is anyone else excited about the new Grinderman album, BTW?). ANYWAY, you need to check them out. For real.

Ray LamontagneGod Willin’ & The Creek Don’t Rise
        CD $12.99

“As the album’s title suggests, it’s a country-tinged record complete with slide guitar and the occasional banjo. The songs conjure images of a simple life of hammock naps and skillet-cooked breakfasts within a universe devoid of cell phones, laptops and televisions.” – Full Review

        David GrayFoundling
        CD $11.99

“The customary bleak introspection (“Take me down, take me down,” he sighs, preparing for the worst, on Davey Jones’ Locker) is there, as is the neediness in his jagged voice, especially on the bloodily raw When I Was in Your Heart. ” – Full Review

        Iron MaidenFinal Frontier
        CD $11.99

“Here we are, some 35 years after Iron Maiden began creating a legacy which the band never set out to make for itself, and the group sounds as tight and energetic as it ever has. Not only that, but Iron Maiden is making music that is—shocking for a band of its age—honestly relevant in the grand scheme its genre; if you were to take away Maiden at this point in time, the band would leave a hole in today’s metal scene, not just the metal scene in general.” – Full Review

        John MellencampNo Better Than This
        CD $13.99

“Whatever you think of Mellencamp, this is the kind of record that will compel a re-evaluation, an out-of-leftfield shot that mostly works because of its modesty, shagginess and humor – qualities not normally associated with the singer in the past.” – Full Review

          Aug 13

When I first heard the title for this latest ‘Crowes release my eyes rolled in the back of my head, thinking it was another “greatest hits” record. And while it IS to certain extent, the album is actually a recently recorded studio album of the band playing their favorites, stripped down and acoustic. Check out the stream and swing by to pick up a copy (or if you’re the lazy type download it!)

            Arcade FireSuburbs
            CD Right Price $9.99 Download/Listen

“After one listen to Arcade Fire’s third album, John Doran reckons that they have played a blinder by ditching the faux apocalyptic Springsteenisms of Neon Bible and allowing their songs ample room to breathe. All hail The Suburbs…” – Full Review

            Black CrowesCroweology
            CD $12.99 Download/Listen

“The set spans The Black Crowes’ catalog with acoustic renditions from their two decades of rock ‘n’ roll. Commemorating the 20th anniversary of their multi-platinum debut, 1990′s “Shake Your Moneymaker,” “Croweology” gives listeners an intimate retrospective of band favorites like “Jealous Again,” “Remedy,” “She Talks To Angels” and “Wiser Time.” – Full Article

            BuckcherryAll Night Long
            CD $11.99 Download/Listen

All Night Long posits Buckcherry as your ultimate all-night rager soundtrack; the fist-pumping anthem-makers who are best heard on 5 a.m. IHOP runs.” – Full Review

            Gov’t MuleMulennium
            CD $12.99 Download/Listen

“Recorded 12-31-1999, Mulennium also features appearances by one of the greatest blues guitarists of all time, the late legendary Little Milton, as well as long time Mule friend and collaborator Audley Freed.” – Full Article

            Los LobosTin Can Trust
            CD $12.99 Download/Listen

“There isn’t a false note on Tin Can Trust. It moves with the assurance of men who have the confidence to follow the path of a stray guitar or keyboard riff, pursuing the implications of a simple but tricky phrase like “tin can trust.” – Full Article

            Secondhand SerenadeHear Me Now
            CD $12.99 Download/Listen

“Hear Me Now serves not only as an album for people who already like Secondhand Serenade, but will certainly serve as a tool to pull in those last few stragglers who are too stubborn to admit that, yeah “Fall For You” was pretty damn catchy.” – Full Article

            WavvesKing of the Beach
            CD $11.99 Download/Listen

“In its quest for an endless summer, King of the Beach wears its California lineage with pride. It’s major-key and resplendently colored, owing as much to Orange County skate-punk as it does to the Beach Boys.” – Full Review

              Jul 31

While they may not be the biggest, most-hyped releases (or reissues, for that matter) this summer, it is with great pleasure that I inform you that we have received a few copies of “Absolutego” and “Amplifier Worship” by Japan’s Boris on colored 2xLP gate-fold vinyl directly from Southern Lord.

For those of you already familiar with the band, no introduction is needed. But, for those unfamiliar: Boris is an experimental heavy/psychedelic/experimental rock band from Japan who have been pushing, twisting and changing any genre associated with them for the past eighteen years. Any attempt on my part to try and describe them to you would be futile, so I implore you to look them up on your own if you have no already.

              BORIS

These reissues are extremely limited, so I encourage you to come down and grab them ASAP. Also, if you have the chance, don’t miss seeing this band live in Philly, this Wednesday (Aug. 4).

                Avenged SevenfoldNightmare
                CD $11.99

“Like AC/DC when they released BACK IN BLACK a mere five months after replacing their vocalist, AVENGED SEVENFOLD just may have written the album of their career.” – Full Review

                Best CoastCrazy For You Download/Listen
                CD $11.99

“That penchant for simplicity bounces all over Best Coast’s debut, Crazy For You. After a string of sunny but sludgy EPs, Crazy features 13 tracks in 30 minutes. It’s the tightest, brightest music Cosantino and sole bandmate Bobb Bruno have pumped out yet.” – Full Review

                JaillThat’s How We Burn Download/Listen
                CD $11.99

“They have a no frills concept going on in That’s How We Burn that may not immediately snag you as being special but I guarantee that their 32 minutes of energy will get some repeat plays based on its memorable hooks, wry lyrics and edgy garage rock moments that keeps everything revved up.” – Full Review

                MenomenaMines Download/Listen
                CD $12.99

“The new one, Mines, has been a long time in the making. When you’re in a band with three perfectionists, that’s likely to happen, but Menomena’s process also makes for a record full of sonic treats.” – Full Review

                Mark OlsonMany Colored Kite
                CD $13.99

“Mark Olson is a founding member of The Jayhawks, the most acclaimed band to emerge out of the alt-country scene. He left the Jayhawks in 1996, after the release of the band’s biggest-selling album, Tomorrow The Green Grass, but continued to record music with his new band, The Creekdippers, at his new home in the California desert.” – Mark Olsen @ MySpace

                J Roddy WalstonSelf Titled
                CD $9.99

“J Roddy Walston and the Business’ self-titled debut album, out July 27, is full of spirited and sweaty Southern rock, and with its joyous oh oh oh ah backing vocals and buoyant boogie rhythm, “I Don’t Wanna Hear It” is the collection’s purest-party starter — but its lyrics paint a defiant picture that started in a troubled personal moment. ” – Full Review

                  BooksThe Way Out
                  CD $11.99

“The Way Out, their first LP in five years, has a surreal, at times creepy, quality that emanates from audio samples lifted from hypnotherapy and emotional healing cassette tapes.” – The Full Review

Sheryl Crow – 110 Miles From Memphis
                  CD $12.99

“After conquering the rock and pop worlds with six Top 10 albums, iconic singer-songwriter Sheryl Crow is headed back to her Southern roots with her new album 100 Miles from Memphis.” Full Story

                  CD $12.99

“Featuring the Eddie Vedder single (recently leaked as a supposed Pearl Jam B-Side from an earlier album, but actually a new recording), the soundtrack to the film also features tunes from Neil Young & Sly & the Family Stone.” Full Track Listing

                    Jul 13

                    Crowded HouseIntriguer
                    CD: $9.99

“You can sense its double identity as you listen: there are songs that bristle with ambition, with strange undercurrents and scuffed melodies; and then there are songs that plod amiably along, as comfortable as a fraying pair of slippers.” – Full Review

                    Danger Mouse & Sparklehorse
                    Dark Night of Soul
                    CD: $9.99
                    Listen/Download

“Part of those haunting visual aspects were captured in a series of surreal photographs filmmaker David Lynch created, based on the stories and themes of the songs. The images are available in a 48-page book in the deluxe version of Dark Night of the Soul, which also includes a poster, postcards, two LPs, a CD and a bonus instrumental CD. Lynch himself actually sings on a couple of tracks on the album.” – Full Review

                    M.I.A.Maya
                    CD $9.99

“It’s a harsh, don’t-mess-with-me re-introduction to one of the most talked-about artists of the last few years, a British-born, Brooklyn-based art-school provocateur who spent her childhood muddling through the chaos of a Sri Lankan civil war. Yet a few songs later, she’s putting away “Teqkilla,” in a song rife with product-placement possibilities, and then offering a breezy, reggae-flavored cover of “It Takes a Muscle,” a drippy 1982 pop ballad by the thoroughly bland Dutch group Spectral Display.” – Full Review

                    Sun Kil MoonAdmiral Fell Promises
                    CD $12.99

“We’ve heard “Australian Winter,” the lead track from Sun Kil Moon’s forthcoming fourth album Admiral Fell Promises (7/13 via Caldo Verde). I mentioned it felt especially chilly — the spare nylon strings intersecting with Mark Kozelek’s voice, the song’s sentiments.” – Full Review
