We just got a grip of new posters in, many of which we’ve never had before. My favorites are either the cover of Joy Division’s Closer, or a super awesome portrait of Nick Cave (is anyone else excited about the new Grinderman album, BTW?). ANYWAY, you need to check them out. For real.
Hey folks – It has been a long, hot, slow summer here on Main St. After careful consideration, we have decided that in order to maintain the level of service that our wonderful customers (that’s you) have come to expect and deserve we will have to shorten the number of hours we are open, slightly. Starting tomorrow Monday, August 23 the new store hours will be as follows:
Monday-Thursday 11am-7pm
Friday 11am-8pm
Saturday 10am-8pm
Sunday 11am-5pm (no change)
We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause, but it is a necessary measure to ensure that we will be here for you for years to come. Thank you for your continued support. We will see you soon!
P.S. As a reminder: We validate parking if you park in a City of Newark lot! Just ask for validation when you check out.
Ray Lamontagne – God Willin’ & The Creek Don’t Rise
CD $12.99

“As the album’s title suggests, it’s a country-tinged record complete with slide guitar and the occasional banjo. The songs conjure images of a simple life of hammock naps and skillet-cooked breakfasts within a universe devoid of cell phones, laptops and televisions.” – Full Review
David Gray – Foundling
CD $11.99

“The customary bleak introspection (“Take me down, take me down,” he sighs, preparing for the worst, on Davey Jones’ Locker) is there, as is the neediness in his jagged voice, especially on the bloodily raw When I Was in Your Heart. ” – Full Review
Iron Maiden – Final Frontier
CD $11.99

“Here we are, some 35 years after Iron Maiden began creating a legacy which the band never set out to make for itself, and the group sounds as tight and energetic as it ever has. Not only that, but Iron Maiden is making music that is—shocking for a band of its age—honestly relevant in the grand scheme its genre; if you were to take away Maiden at this point in time, the band would leave a hole in today’s metal scene, not just the metal scene in general.” – Full Review
John Mellencamp – No Better Than This
CD $13.99

“Whatever you think of Mellencamp, this is the kind of record that will compel a re-evaluation, an out-of-leftfield shot that mostly works because of its modesty, shagginess and humor – qualities not normally associated with the singer in the past.” – Full Review

When I first heard the title for this latest ‘Crowes release my eyes rolled in the back of my head, thinking it was another “greatest hits” record. And while it IS to certain extent, the album is actually a recently recorded studio album of the band playing their favorites, stripped down and acoustic. Check out the stream and swing by to pick up a copy (or if you’re the lazy type download it!)
The new issue of Rolling Stone (Katy Perry cover) is here! More magazines soon!

Arcade Fire – Suburbs
CD Right Price $9.99 Download/Listen

“After one listen to Arcade Fire’s third album, John Doran reckons that they have played a blinder by ditching the faux apocalyptic Springsteenisms of Neon Bible and allowing their songs ample room to breathe. All hail The Suburbs…” – Full Review
Black Crowes – Croweology
CD $12.99 Download/Listen

“The set spans The Black Crowes’ catalog with acoustic renditions from their two decades of rock ‘n’ roll. Commemorating the 20th anniversary of their multi-platinum debut, 1990’s “Shake Your Moneymaker,” “Croweology” gives listeners an intimate retrospective of band favorites like “Jealous Again,” “Remedy,” “She Talks To Angels” and “Wiser Time.” – Full Article
Buckcherry – All Night Long
CD $11.99 Download/Listen

“All Night Long posits Buckcherry as your ultimate all-night rager soundtrack; the fist-pumping anthem-makers who are best heard on 5 a.m. IHOP runs.” – Full Review
Gov’t Mule – Mulennium
CD $12.99 Download/Listen

“Recorded 12-31-1999, Mulennium also features appearances by one of the greatest blues guitarists of all time, the late legendary Little Milton, as well as long time Mule friend and collaborator Audley Freed.” – Full Article
Los Lobos – Tin Can Trust
CD $12.99 Download/Listen

“There isn’t a false note on Tin Can Trust. It moves with the assurance of men who have the confidence to follow the path of a stray guitar or keyboard riff, pursuing the implications of a simple but tricky phrase like “tin can trust.” – Full Article
Secondhand Serenade – Hear Me Now
CD $12.99 Download/Listen

“Hear Me Now serves not only as an album for people who already like Secondhand Serenade, but will certainly serve as a tool to pull in those last few stragglers who are too stubborn to admit that, yeah “Fall For You” was pretty damn catchy.” – Full Article
Wavves – King of the Beach
CD $11.99 Download/Listen

“In its quest for an endless summer, King of the Beach wears its California lineage with pride. It’s major-key and resplendently colored, owing as much to Orange County skate-punk as it does to the Beach Boys.” – Full Review
While they may not be the biggest, most-hyped releases (or reissues, for that matter) this summer, it is with great pleasure that I inform you that we have received a few copies of “Absolutego” and “Amplifier Worship” by Japan’s Boris on colored 2xLP gate-fold vinyl directly from Southern Lord.
For those of you already familiar with the band, no introduction is needed. But, for those unfamiliar: Boris is an experimental heavy/psychedelic/experimental rock band from Japan who have been pushing, twisting and changing any genre associated with them for the past eighteen years. Any attempt on my part to try and describe them to you would be futile, so I implore you to look them up on your own if you have no already.

These reissues are extremely limited, so I encourage you to come down and grab them ASAP. Also, if you have the chance, don’t miss seeing this band live in Philly, this Wednesday (Aug. 4).
New issues of Rolling Stone, Wax Poetics, Decibal, Dance Magazine, Under the Radar, and Paste Magazine have arrived for your lazy summer days.
